A Davar Shebikdushah After Reciting Yihyu Leratzon

Question

Which amens [of Kaddish and other amens] may one answer after the first Yihyu Leratzon—and what is the law for someone who does not say the first Yihyu Leratzon; what may he answer?

Answer

Shalom uverachah

After reciting the first Yihyu Leratzon, one may interrupt for any davar shebikdushah, except for “Baruch Hu uvaruch Shemo” upon hearing Hashem’s Name in a blessing, and “Berich Hu” in Kaddish.

Before reciting the first Yihyu Leratzon: according to the Shulchan Aruch, one does not interrupt for anything.

According to the Rema, it is permitted to interrupt for anything for which one interrupts in the middle of a paragraph of Keriat Shema. Namely:

Kaddish — Amen Yehei Shemei Rabba until le’almei almaya. One should not say “Yitbarach.” One answers amen after da’amiran be’alma, but not after Titkabel, and not the other amens in Kaddish.

Kedushah — one should say only Kadosh and Baruch, but not “Yimloch” and not the other passages said in Kedushah.

Barechu — one answers: Baruch Hashem hamevorach le’olam va’ed.

Birkat HaTorah — one answers: Baruch Hashem hamevorach le’olam va’ed, and also amen at the end of the blessing.

Modim DeRabbanan — only the word “Modim.”

Amen — after HaKel HaKadosh and Shome’a Tefillah, but not other amens.

After reciting the second Yihyu Leratzon, it is permitted to say any davar shebikdushah.
