Moving a Tent on Shabbat

Question

Hello and blessings,
I wanted to know whether there is room to permit several people on Shabbat to take a canopy and lift it near a place where there is already a protruding tefach, such as from some caravan or something similar, so that it would be permitted on the basis of adding to a temporary tent, and then take the canopy to another place, such as a pergola, and put it there.

Answer

Hello and blessings

The question is not sufficiently clear.

The principle is that an open tent that is intended to be moved may be transferred from place to place without issue, and there is no need for the leniency of adding to an existing tent.

Only when one spreads out a new tent is this leniency needed.

Moving a canopy, in the overwhelming majority of cases, is muktzeh, since it is not intended to be moved from its place but rather to be fixed in one place.
