An Onion Cut with a Knife

Question

An onion (a sharp/pungent food) was cut with a dairy knife that had not been used within the past 24 hours, and afterward it was cooked in a meat pot that had not been used within the past 24 hours and stirred with a meat spoon. Must the pot and the spoon be kashered through hagalah? I would appreciate a brief source, and whether the words of the Beit Meir are relevant here, since this is a case of cooking and not the pressure of the knife.

Answer

Hello and blessings

If it was a small onion — the onion absorbs a strong dairy taste from the knife [since the sharpness strengthens the taste, and it is treated like the absorption of a taste that is “ben yomo”], and therefore the pot and the spoon received a dairy taste and became prohibited.

However, in a regular onion there is far more than 60 times the amount of the dairy absorption in the knife, and therefore everything is permitted.
