Changing the Use of a Microwave

Question

A yeshiva student has a meat microwave and wants to turn it into a dairy one. Is this permitted?

Answer

This is not permitted ideally for two reasons: (1) utensils should not be switched from meat to dairy unless in a case of great necessity; (2) it is not clear that koshering by steam is effective.
