Traveling by Means of a Non-Jew on Yom Kippur

Question

I live in Queens, New York. On Yom Kippur I want to get to prayers at a synagogue in Manhattan, where I usually pray, but I cannot get there on foot. Is it permissible for me to travel on a bus driven by a non-Jew, with another non-Jew swiping the fare card for me, so that I can get to the synagogue?

Answer

Shalom u’verachah,

It is forbidden to travel by means of a non-Jew, since it is forbidden to cause a non-Jew to perform melachah for us.
