Yom Kippur Fast — Diarrhea and Vomiting Virus
Question
Answer
Shalom u’vrachah
They should try to fast.
It is reasonable that those suffering from the virus will become weak and dehydrated due to the vomiting and diarrhea, and in a case of concern for dehydration, they should drink in measured amounts. That is, 40 cc of liquid every 9 minutes.
It is recommended to drink a nourishing beverage such as grape juice, soup broth, and the like, and not only water, so that besides fluids they will also receive nourishment and energy.
If the dehydration is more severe, and the above amount is not sufficient, they should try drinking the measured amount of 40 cc every 4 minutes.
If this too does not help and there is still significant weakness, dizziness even while at rest, or black circles under the eyes — they should begin drinking normally.
