Kidney stones — the fast of Tisha B’Av
Question
Two questions
A fifty-three-year-old man with a history of kidney stones from time to time — sometimes every six months, sometimes more often, sometimes less often. According to the most recent ultrasound, three months ago, there is currently a grain of sand inside the kidney. When there is an attack, it requires hospitalization only for painkillers. At present I have no pain, but I have very, very slight discomfort in the kidney area. The first time I had a severe attack was after the fast of Tisha B’Av ten years ago, but since then I generally fast only on Yom Kippur, and sometimes also on Tisha B’Av if I prepare very well for the fast and drink a lot. This time I did not really manage to prepare. What should I do?
Second question
A woman of about fifty, on Monday and Tuesday of this week, and still today, Wednesday, the eve of Tisha B’Av, feels very weak, completely drained; yesterday evening, the night of Wednesday, she had several episodes of vomiting, which stopped, but she still has diarrhea, literally like water, with abdominal pain.
