Bracha for a Newborn Baby Girl

Question

Hi bh just had a baby girl is there a bracha to make on it and also if it's 2 days already is it too late?

Answer

Mazel Tov! May you be zocheh to have much nachas from her. "Shetizkeh legadlah letorah, lechuppah, ulemaasim tovim!"

We do not recite the bracha of HaTov VeHaMeitiv upon the birth of a daughter. However, the opinion of the Mishnah Berurah is that both the father and the mother should recite Shehecheyanu the first time they see their newborn daughter.

In practice, HaGaon HaRav Amrom Fried shlit"a says that the best way do so, would be to recite Shehecheyanu on a new fruit and have in mind that the bracha should also exempt the Shehecheyanu of the birth of the daughter.

If a new fruit is not available, and one wishes to recite Shehecheyanu upon seeing his daughter for the first time, in accordance with the opinion of the Mishnah Berurah, has on whom to rely on.
