A sign that distinguishes between meat and dairy utensils

Question

Hello. I read in books that one should make a sign that will distinguishing between the meat and dairy utensils by making a groove on the dairy utensils. Is this practiced in our time?

Answer

Hello everyone!
In our time, we don't usually mark things with a groove, but what we do is use differently-patterned or differently-colored utensils. And we need to mark the utensils according to the regular custom, such as red for meat and blue for milk, in order to avoid confusion.
If someone has, for example, a red knife that is used for dairy, he needs to mark very clearly that it is dairy.
