Pruzbul on select loans

Question

(At the end of a sabbatical year, certain types of loans are forgiven. In order that one’s loans not be forgiven, one has to file a special document, which is called a “pruzbul”.) Can I file a pruzbul that will cover all my loans with the exception of one loan that I do want to be cancelled?

Answer

It’s definitely possible, and it’s appropriate to leave one loan with which you will fulfill the commandment of debt-cancellation. (It’s also possible to make a loan (which has to be due before Rosh Hashana) after you file the pruzbul, and then this loan will be cancelled.)
