Immersion a Coffee Machine

Question

Hello! I recently purchased a Delongi Eletta Evo (espresso cappuccino machine). What do I do about toivling/immersing in a mikva?

Answer

Shalom!

Thank you for your question!

All appliances that come into direct contact with food must be immersed in a mikva. As such, this appliance needs to be immersed, as well.

Since it is impossible to immerse a coffee machine without it breaking, one can have a Jewish professional dismantle the appliance somewhat so that it is no longer functional and then put it back together in a way that only professional can. In this way the appliance is considered to have been manufactured by a Jew, and as such, it is exempt from immersion altogether.
