Studies Required for Work
Question
Someone was told at his workplace that in order to be able to continue working, he needs to undertake studies, and the studies cost him 600 NIS per month for two years. Is it permissible to pay for this from ma'aser funds? And if not, should the cost of the studies be deducted from his salary income for the purpose of calculating ma'aser?
Answer
Shalom u'vrachah,
This expense may not be paid from ma'aser funds, but it may be deducted from the income that is subject to ma'aser.
