Reading Shnayim Mikra During an Aliyah to the Torah
Question
I read Shnayim Mikra together with the baal koreh during the Torah reading. Sometimes I receive an aliyah to the Torah and read along with the baal koreh because of the blessings that I recited. Is this reading considered part of Shnayim Mikra? In addition, sometimes there is no break of a petuchah or setumah section between one aliyah and the next. Are the blessings over the aliyah considered a problematic interruption with regard to Shnayim Mikra?
Answer
Shalom u’vrachah
A. Reading together with the reader is considered “Mikra” with regard to saying Shnayim Mikra ve’Echad Targum.
B. Although the more correct way is to read each “parashah” [petuchah or setumah] as Shnayim Mikra ve’Echad Targum, it is also possible to read each “aliyah” as one unit.
C. The blessings do not constitute an interruption; an interruption in Shnayim Mikra ve’Echad Targum does not invalidate it.
