Twisting and Opening an Iron Wire

Question

In preparation for an aliyah to the Torah that will take place next Shabbat, we prepared bags of sweets and wrapped them with an iron wire. Is there a prohibition of tying in this?

Answer

Shalom u’vrachah

It is forbidden to close such a wire on Shabbat by twisting it.

Regarding opening the wire, one should be stringent; however, a child below bar mitzvah age may open it.
