Squeezing lemon into tahini
Question
Is tahini considered a food or a liquid with regard to squeezing fruit on Shabbat? Is it permitted to squeeze a lemon directly into tahini, just as it is permitted to squeeze lemon into a salad, or is this similar to squeezing into a liquid, which is forbidden?
Answer
Shalom u’vrachah
Tahini can be prepared in many ways.
There is a situation in which it is considered “food” — when it contains little water and does not pour.
And there is a situation in which it is considered a “liquid” — when it is made with a lot of water and it pours.
