Text of the Prayer Before Study

Question

Regarding the “Yehi Ratzon” recited before study: which text is appropriate to teach children in a Talmud Torah to say before learning?

Answer

Shalom u’vracha.

The text is as written by the Mishnah Berurah (siman 110, se’if katan 35), and these are his words:

It is good to say one short text that includes much, and this is it:
“May it be Your will, Hashem, my God and the God of my fathers, that You illuminate my eyes with the light of Your Torah and save us from every stumbling block and error — whether in the laws of forbidden and permitted matters, whether in monetary laws, whether in halachic ruling, or in study. ‘Open my eyes, that I may behold wonders from Your Torah’ (Tehillim 119:18). And regarding what I have already erred in, set me upon the truth; and do not remove the word of truth from my mouth exceedingly, for ‘Hashem gives wisdom; from His mouth come knowledge and understanding’ (Mishlei 2:6).”

And when one studies in a group, he should also request that he not rejoice in their mistakes and that they not rejoice in his mistake, as stated in the Gemara.
End quote.
