Listening to a story about idols
Question
Hello, honored Rabbi. Is it permitted, for entertainment purposes, to watch a fantasy film based on Greek or Norse mythology, when today I do not believe in the gods described and relate to them only as fictional characters? Is there a difference between a film that merely uses the characters and the mythological story, and a film that depicts prayer, sacrifice, or worship of those gods? I would also be glad to know whether there is a problem with merely hearing the names of the idols.
Answer
Everything is forbidden.
Source
It is obligatory to distance oneself from anything that has a connection to idolatry.
