A “Ventilated Skin” Wig

Question

Today there is a common model of wigs called “ventilated skin” (a wig structure): the wig is built on a lace net, but the lace is folded at the front and closed underneath with white fabric, so that it is not transparent.

Is a wig with such a structure kosher and permitted to wear?

I have heard that there is an obligation for the wig to look like a wig and not like natural hair. What are the precise parameters of this according to the Rabbi’s view?

Disclosure: I first contacted Rabbi Yisrael Goelman shlita, and I was told that at first they permitted such a wig after the required adjustments, but nowadays they refrain from permitting wigs of this structure across the board, due to stumbling blocks among the public.

Since we do not have a regular rabbi, I would like to clarify the position of the Beit Hora’ah according to the approach and ruling of our teacher Rabbi Amram Fried shlita:

1. According to Rabbi Fried’s approach, is there room to permit this wig in and of itself?
2. If so, what corrections or adjustments are required so that it will be completely kosher and modest lechatchilah?

P.S. I would be happy to know who answered the question.

Thank you very much.

Answer

Shalom u’vrachah.

The response of our teacher Rabbi Amram Fried shlita: There is no precise definition regarding the details of the form, exactly how this wig can be permitted. The parameter is that if a Haredi woman recognizes that it is a wig, it is permitted.

The respondent: Rabbi Yisrael Cohen, a halachic decisor in the Beit Hora’ah.
