Knife that mixed dairy onion

Question

We fried onions in a dairy pan and mixed them with a pareve knife. Did the knife become dairy?

Answer

If the onions were mixed after they had been in the pan for a while and had lost their sharpness, the knife does not become dairy. However, if the onions are still sharp, the knife becomes dairy.
