Antibiotics on Yom Kippur
Question
Hello Rabbi, I am taking antibiotics because of an infection or pain in a tooth. How should I conduct myself regarding the Yom Kippur fast? Should I fast as usual and take the antibiotics without water, or is it permitted to take them with a small amount of water? And if they need to be taken at fixed times and at certain intervals, what should I do?
Answer
Shalom u’vrachah
If there is no other instruction from a doctor, you must fast.
You should try to swallow the antibiotics without water.
If it is not possible without water, the water should be made bitter [with a large amount of tea essence, salt, lemon juice, and the like].
