Freshly Laundered Bedding for a Guest

Question

Shalom u’vrachah. I will be staying with my parents for Shabbat during the Nine Days, and I have a regular set of bedding there that I use when I come. May I use it this coming Shabbat even though it is freshly laundered, or should I bring with me the bedding that I have already used? Thank you very much.

Answer

Shalom u’vrachah.

It is preferable that you bring bedding with you.

The reason it is permitted to provide a guest with freshly laundered bedding is that this is not done for added pleasure, but out of necessity.

Therefore, our teacher Rabbi Amram Fried shlita wrote that the guest should soil the bedding slightly — for example, by having a child lie on it for a short time, or by soiling it on the floor.
