The Order of the Meals on Simchat Torah That Falls on Shabbat
Question
On Simchat Torah, is it permissible to pray Mincha immediately after Mussaf, then eat the first meal, take a break, and then eat seudah shlishit? And what is the most proper way to conduct oneself?
Answer
Shalom u’vrachah
It is not advisable to do this, since the proper time for the first meal is before Mincha, and the proper time for seudah shlishit is after Mincha.
Therefore, it is better to eat a meal immediately after Mussaf, then pray Mincha, and then eat seudah shlishit.
It is possible to divide the afternoon meal into two, but one must make a complete interruption between the two parts. For example: one should eat part of the meal, recite Birkat Hamazon, and go to pray Mincha; after returning home, one should wash hands again for seudah shlishit.
