Adding Personal Thanks in the Blessing of “Modim”

Question

Is it permitted to add personal thanks in my own words in the blessing of Modim, in Hebrew or in another language, during the Shemoneh Esrei prayer? Or is this considered adding requests in the last three blessings, which is prohibited?

Answer

Shalom u’vrachah

It is permitted to add to any blessing something that pertains to the subject of that blessing. Therefore, although one should not make requests that are not part of the order of the prayer in the last three blessings, you may add words of thanks there.
