Matzah from the Previous Year

Question

Is there any issue with eating Matzah from the previous year? In all cases - whether it was sealed or not sealed (but did not come into contact with leaven). Please provide sources (also for opinions that permit eating). Thank you in advance.

Answer

Greetings,
Matzah from the previous year does not leaven, and therefore, from the perspective of leaven laws, there is no problem whatsoever with eating it.
However, in prolonged storage, it is very common for insects to develop in it. Therefore, it is forbidden to eat it without a thorough inspection.
You can hold the Matzah flat in front of your eyes and look to see if there are no cobwebs and stuck crumbs.
