The return of a Lost Jew.

Question

First I would like to ask for a Blessing from the Rabbi. My name is Bernardo Persegani Barcellos. I am Jewish on my father's and mother's side. On my mother's side, we have the Persegani family with names like Giacomo (Yacov) Persegani, the Mattos and the Silveira. The Barcellos family comes from the union of several Sephardic families and, according to Family Search, even from Sesnando Davides and well... Several Exilarchs and King David himself. We have lost our Jewish identity in Portugal, but the spirit remains even in marriages. I am getting back to it, but I am having difficulty contacting a synagogue in Paraná (Curitiba). I was well received by a Messianic community, but I feel I need to speak to a traditional Rabbi. I eat kosher, celebrate shabbat, and study the Torah. I really want to oficially convert back and go back home. How can I do that? I live in Curitiba/PR - Brazil.

Answer

Shalom!

Thank you for writing.

It is wonderful that you have decided to re-connect with your Jewish roots!

Indeed, you must consult a proper rabbi to help you in your journey.

I recommend that you contact Rabbi Yossef Dubrawsky (55-41-3023-1398 / 55-41-3022-8894) and he will help you!

God Bless!
