Tzedakah and Taxes

Question

Tzedakah. Do tax benefits count towards the 10%. In the UK the government will boost donations by 25% if you pay tax. So can I pay 25% less and still for fill my 10% tzedakah requirement. Does giving to charity for tax breaks taint your offering?

Answer

Shalom!

Thank you for your question!

If I understand correctly, I think you mean that when you donate 10% you pay less taxes and/or the government will even add charity money to the charity you donated to.

Your obligations of giving 10% to charity are no connected to the fact that this will reduce the amount of tax you must pay.

I hope this answers your question.
