Fasting: Unwell

Question

Every time I fast I invariably feel dizzy and unwell after a couple of hours and have to break my fast. Can I start off the day not fasting? (I'll feel ill the rest of the day but I don't know if that means I can לכתחילה not fast)

Answer

Shalom!

Thank you for your question.

only when you start not to feel then can you break your fast even if you can still function. Unlike other fasts that one can only break the fast when one is considered a 'cho'le she'eyn bo sakanah" For example, the whole body is not well and cannot function normally, or one has to lie down.(The fast of Yom Kippur has other guidelines)
