Colonoscopy on Tisha Bav

Question

I need to have a colonoscopy and the only date available is tisha bav. The procedure is scheduled to begin at 11am on August 13th. I am scheduled to take the prep liquid beginning the night before. Additionally I will be fasting starting the whole day before for the procedure and will likely be advised to eat after the procedure. What is the best way to go about this?

Answer

Shalom!

Thank you for your question.

This is how you should proceed with regard to the colonoscopy:

1. Make sure to drink a lot before the fast

2. Try to be sure to drink the medicine before the fast

3. After the procedure it would be preferable if you can sleep and rest without eating or drinking but this will depend on your general health, age, strength, and the like. If any of this is a concern, you will probably need to drink in order not to dehydrate.
