Polygamous relationship

Question

Boker tov I'm a 36 years lady, who just got pregnant. I'm happy that I'm going to have a baby for the first time, my problem is the father of the child he's married to another woman, but he wants to marry me as well. So I don't know if it's permitted for me to get married to him or not. His wife knows me, and she likes me as well. How do I tell my 71 year old mom about this matter

Answer

Shalom!

Thank you for your question.

It is difficult to address all the details of your situation in a forum such as this.

I will remind you, of course, that according to both Jewish law and secular law, one can only be married to one person. So this detail must be worked out. Furthermore, I am sure you will agree, that secret relationships and extra-marital relationships are wrong.

You can tell your mom that you are pregnant from a boyfriend. You are not obligated to tell her, at this time, that he is married.
