Yom Kippur Fast - Irritable Bowel Syndrome

Question

Dear Rabbi, my wife suffers from irritable bowel syndrome. It manifests in diarrhea and severe weakness. The mere knowledge of the fast puts her under stress, which exacerbates her symptoms. In the past, we received a ruling that on Yom Kippur she should drink ‘by measurements’. What should she do on Yom Kippur this year? With blessing, Yehuda

Answer

Shalom!
She should drink ‘by measurement’ starting in the morning, a total of one liter of liquid, which means that the liter has to be divided into portions of 40 milliliters and one portion can be consumed every 9 minutes.
