Tithing Money from a Circumcision Gift

Question

I circumcised my son and received money as a gift. The question is whether this is defined as a gift for a specific purpose and does not need to be tithed, or whether it is not considered for the purpose of covering the costs of the circumcision.

Answer

Shalom!
It depends on the intention. If it was given to cover expenses, [as is customary in Sephardic communities], there is no need to tithe. If it was given as a general gift, a tithe should be separated from it.
