Passing Through a Synagogue

Regarding passing through a synagogue, is it permissible for non-Jewish workers to pass through there? In other words, should this be prevented?

Making a shortcut through a synagogue is a disrespect to the synagogue, and therefore it should be prevented even for non-Jewish workers.
