A sick person who has become weak — medication on Shabbat

Question

I have been suffering for several days already from a very bad general feeling and frequent diarrhea. In recent days I have been subsisting mainly on water and a little rice, and I take 6 Optalgin pills (a pain-relief medication) per day in order to stabilize how I feel. May I continue taking Optalgin on Shabbat?

Answer

Shalom u'vrachah

A sick person whose entire body has become weak may take medication on Shabbat.
