Ice Pack on Shabbos

Question

If I have a sore Achilles heel and my wedding is on Monday, may I put an ice pack on it on Shabbat?

Answer

Shalom!

Thank you for your question.

Since the pain can be relieved by taking, for example, ibuprofen or paracetamol, it is considered an ailment that can be treated with medication. Therefore, one may use an ice pack only in circumstances in which taking medication on Shabbos is permitted, such as when one cannot function because of the pain.

Wishing you well and a big Mazel Tov.
