Feeding Animals on Shabbat

I have a pair of parrots at home. Is it permissible to fill their food and water containers on Shabbat?

If it is not possible to fill them before Shabbat, or if one forgot to do so, it is permissible to provide them with the necessary food and drink for Shabbat.
