Walking to the Car on Shabbat
Question
Is it possible to take the keys and hide them on Friday before Shabbat near the car, and then walk to the car while it is still Shabbat, and as soon as three stars appear, take the keys from the hiding place and start the car? (Also after the fact?)
Answer
Shalom u'vrachah.
It is forbidden on Shabbat to go to a place where it is evident that one is preparing himself for something that is forbidden on Shabbat.
Therefore, it is forbidden to walk on Shabbat near the car in order that after Shabbat he will be able to drive, since it is evident that he is preparing himself for driving, which is forbidden on Shabbat.
However, it is permitted to walk in a manner that is not evident as preparation for after Shabbat, such as going for a stroll near the place where the car is parked, so that after Shabbat he will be close to it.
