Is there a prohibition against tearing skin from the finger on Shabbat?

It is forbidden to tear skin from the finger on Shabbat, in any form or manner.

The Gemara states in Shabbat 94: a distinction is made between tearing upwards and tearing downwards. However, since the early commentators disagreed on its interpretation, the Shulchan Aruch prohibited it in all cases.
