Carrying from a House to a Courtyard That Is Not Surrounded by a Fence

I will be abroad on Shabbat, and from my apartment I have a private courtyard belonging to the apartment, but it is not surrounded by a fence. Is it permitted to carry from the apartment to the courtyard?

It is forbidden to carry from the house to the courtyard if there is no fence, or a valid municipal eruv.
