A vow made without prior thought
Question
What is the ruling regarding a vow that was said in good faith and without prior thought?
Answer
Shalom u’vrachah
I do not know what “in good faith” means—out of intention? With the thought that it would not take effect?
In practice: everything depends on whether, at the time you said the vow, you intended to make a vow—in which case the vow takes effect. But if you did not intend to make a vow, the vow does not take effect.
