Error in Writing a Mezuzah
Question
I wanted to ask.
A scribe was supposed to write in the mezuzah 'Ve'ahavta... Elokecha' but made a mistake in the name and wrote: Elokeinu, and when he was about to finish the last 'vav', he made a line without the shape of a letter and stopped. What should be done?
Answer
It is forbidden to erase, as the error cannot be erased. However, it is permitted to scrape off the erroneous part, according to those who hold that the erroneous part may be scraped off.
