Participating in Shabbat Sheva Berachot During the Year of Mourning

Question

I am in the year of mourning for my mother, peace be upon her. There is a Sheva Berachot (a seudat mitzvah) for my sister-in-law from the other side of the family in another city. May I participate there in the Shabbat meals? If not, may I sit there without eating, or come and deliver a derashah in praise of the groom and bride during the meal?

Answer

Shalom u'vracha,

Your wife is permitted to participate there. And since your wife is going there, it would be “public mourning” if you did not participate.

Therefore, you are also permitted to eat there.
