Do the Laws of an Onen Apply When Traveling to a Parent's Funeral?

Question

My father-in-law passed away, and my wife will be flying from Israel to the United States for the funeral. Do the laws of an onen apply to her?

Answer

Thank you for your question.

All the halachos of shivah apply, with the exception of having to wear slippers.

Until she arrives in the United States, then only when she is occupied with arranging anything for the funeral, she is exempt from mitzvos.

Once she has arrived all the Halchos of onen apply.

 Shenishma besurot tovot.
