Cancelling commitment to charity

Question

I have committed to fill a standing order to charities and benevolent funds, involving large sums which have been divided into multiple payments. Is there any way to cancel the standing order due to financial hardship?

Answer

Dear …!
It is not possible to cancel a commitment to a certain amount, which is considered a charity pledge and a vow. However, it is possible to postpone the payment until a time when it will be more convenient.
