A Gift Received by Mistake
Question
Hello and blessings.
A few years ago, I volunteered in a fundraising campaign for an Ezer Mizion Chinese auction. The reward for volunteers was points for each donation, and with the points it was possible to order gifts by phone.
One time when I called to order gifts, I discovered that apparently because of a malfunction, many points had been added to my account, and thus I was able to order an additional gift worth about 100 NIS. At the time, I did not think there was any problem with this, and I ordered it. Afterwards it became clear that there had indeed been a malfunction. I tried to return the gift, but I was referred from one person to another, and in the end it remained with me and I did not find a way to return it.
Now, after several years, the gift is still with me — a voucher to a certain store in the amount of 100 NIS. May I use the voucher? And if not, is it possible to donate this amount to Ezer Mizion instead of returning the voucher?
Since I do not know whom to contact and cannot find a way to return it.
Thank you very much.
Answer
Hello and blessings.
It is forbidden to use the voucher.
You may give Ezer Mizion its value, and then use the voucher.
[But in truth, this provides no benefit for you, since you are paying and receiving the same thing...].
