Question
We moved into an apartment in a new building, and there is a large shared parking lot for all the residents of the three buildings in the project. Next to my parking space there is a small area that helps me get in and out of the car, and it is not used as a passageway by any of the other residents. May I enclose this area for my private use only?
Am I required to obtain the residents’ consent? And can a resident require me to use this area for his benefit as well?
Answer
Hello and blessings
It is not possible to answer such a question without hearing from the neighbors, and without seeing the situation on site.
In general, an area that belongs to all the neighbors may not be taken over by one of them as a personal area.
