Waiving Money That Belongs to His Parents

Question

May a young man living in his parents’ home waive a small sum of money for his friends, even though the money is not owed to him but to his father (who lent or paid for his friends for something specific using his parents’ money)?

Answer

Shalom u’vracha.

If he cannot ask his parents, he may waive only small sums, where it can be assumed that his parents give him permission to forgo them.

However, if he can, he should ask them about it.
