Payment for Work During Hours of Delay
Question
I arranged with someone to do work starting at a certain time. For the work, she needed to bring me a certain item without which it is impossible to work, but she was delayed, and the item reached me only after about an hour and a half. I cleared my time and prepared accordingly, including taking the children out earlier, in order to start on time, and in the meantime I waited and was available for her. Should I deduct the waiting time from the calculation of work hours, or report the hours as usual?
Answer
Shalom u'vracha
The ruling of the dayanim of the Beit Hora'ah:
For hours during which you did not work, but rather waited for the work, the client must pay half the rate.
This also includes your expenses for a babysitter and the like.
