Payment of Car Rental Expenses to the Injured Party
Question
A person damaged a friend's car in such a way that the car owner cannot currently use it, and the injured party rented another car as a result. Does the one who caused the damage need to pay the car rental expenses?
Answer
According to the basic law, he is exempt from payment, because the payment of "Shabbat" is only for damage to a person and not for damage to tools. However, since there are those who obligate it, it is advisable to reach a compromise.
