Damaging a Motorcycle That Was Parked Illegally

Question

There was a motorcycle parked by a red-and-white curb on the road, meaning illegally, and I was driving my car lawfully. Since it was on a downhill slope, although any slight contact would normally not cause anything, because it was downhill it broke the cover of his turn signal and the handle of the brake. What is the halacha?

Answer

Shalom u’vrachah

If you did not intend to damage it, you are exempt from paying.

But if you intended to cause damage, you are liable.
