Watching a Film Without the Creators’ Permission

Question

Is it permissible to watch a Haredi girls’ film that was publicized in a broad public forum without the creators’ permission, when the creators do not permit watching these films?

Answer

Shalom u’verachah

The ruling of our teacher Rabbi Amram Fried shlita is that the halachah depends on one thing: if the film is still being made available for viewing by the creators, it is forbidden to watch it without payment. But if the creators are no longer offering the film for sale, it is permissible to watch it without payment.
